Next Generation Philanthropy
At the Walker Area Community Foundation we believe philanthropy is a learned behavior across generations. For us, philanthropist is simply defined as someone who gives of their time, talents and treasure towards making the world around them a better place. In 2012, 10% of the foundation’s giving to the Community Fund came from donors under the age of 35. This age group is a leader in the Community Fund’s grantmaking as well.
Youth Leadership Walker County (high school juniors) and Project Community (ages 25 – 55) research
needs and give to charitable organizations in Walker County each year. These groups exhibit
tremendous wisdom in carefully selecting grants that will positively influence our community’s future.
