Each summer, New College interns make Walker County their home. They live and work in the community, partnering with local organizations and building genuine connections with the people they serve.

In partnership with WACF, interns take on projects shaped by locally identified needs, gaining firsthand experience while making a meaningful contribution. The program is built on the idea that lasting social change happens through strong relationships, collaboration, and a shared commitment to place.
The Walker County Internship Program is a partnership between the Walker Area Community Foundation (WACF) and the University of Alabama’s New College through the statewide Jean O’Connor-Snyder Internship Program (JOIP).
